Raj Kapoor
(14 December, 1924 - 2 June, 1988)
Raj Kapoor, the creator of such classics of the silver screen as Awara, Aag and Sangam, is many things to many people - producer, director, actor, editor, musician, storyteller, a man of many moods and an acknowledged patriarch of India 's film industry. He is also known to the world as an extraordinary and controversial showman, an idealist, a reformer. Few can deny that he was the greatest entertainer of Hindi cinema. He worked within the cinematic tradition he inherited, modified it, added new elements to it and thus produced a distinctive, seductively romantic and immensely popular oeuvre. He is widely regarded as the last true movie mogul of India cinema.
