As Chairman and Co-founder of NIIT Group, Rajendra S Pawar pioneered computer education in India - a country which is today in the forefront of global IT and BPO services trade. A distinguished alumnus of Scindia School, Gwalior and IIT Delhi, Pawar is considered a great visionary and developer of human resource potential, who steered the 25 year old company to become Asia's largest IT education and Knowledge Corporation.
His vision of bringing "people and computers together" found reflection in NIIT's efforts to position the IT industry as a major and viable career for Indian youth.
Actively involved in voicing the concerns of the IT industry, Pawar is the Founder Member of NASSCOM (the National Association of Software & Service Companies) and MAIT (Manufacturers Association of Information Technology). He is also involved in the functioning of Key Indian Chambers of Commerce, like- CII & FICCI as member of their committee on Quality, HR and IT. Pawar continues to lead major ICT industry initiatives, giving voice to the sector's aspirations and goals.
Pawar was invited to be a part of the Prime Minister's National Task force of 1998- set up with the objective of making India an IT Superpower by 2008. He is also a member of the Planning Commission's Task Force on Skill Development.
Pawar has been feted by the World Economic Forum, wherein he currently contributes to the body's resolutions, as an active member of their International Business Council. He is also a member of the South Africa President's council on the ICT industry.
He serves on the Board of Governors of IIT Delhi, ISB Hyderabad and The Scindia School. Pawar is on the Board of Management of world's largest distance learning university, Indira Gandhi National Open University.
Global Business Intelligence firm, Ernst & Young conferred on Mr. Pawar its prestigious Master Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1999. He has also been named the IT man of the Year by IT industry journal, Dataquest.
Under Pawar's leadership NIIT has now consolidated its presence in the other geographies, such as the Americas, Europe, APAC including China. The Company along with Element K- a US based, leading provider of learning solutions, which it recently acquired, now offers a comprehensive portfolio of learning solutions for individual and corporate customers, globally.
