Renuka Ramnath

Renuka Ramnath is the Managing Director & CEO of ICICI Venture Funds Management Company Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of ICICI Bank Ltd, India's largest private sector bank with total assets over USD56 billion.

Ms. Renuka Ramnath began her career with ICICI in 1986 in the Merchant Banking Division of ICICI. She then shifted to ICICI Securities to head the Corporate Finance and Equities Businesses, setting new benchmarks for ICICI Securities in terms of revenue potential. She returned to ICICI in 1997 to set up Structured Finance Business.

In 1999, Ms. Ramnath moved on to head the e-commerce initiatives of ICICI. She was appointed the Managing Director & CEO of ICICI Eco-Net Limited in September 2000. She took over as Managing Director & CEO of ICICI Venture after the merger of ICICI Eco-net with ICICI Ventures.

Milestones

  • In 2003, under the leadership of Ms. Ramnath, ICICI Venture raised the USD245 million India Advantage Fund Series I, the then largest private equity Fund in India . The fund is today an investor in some of the most notable transactions in India .
  • From pushing a multi-state expansion plan for Subhiksha, to finding prospective second-round investors at PVR Cinemas, Ramnath is driving growth in the sector..
  • Ramnath bears the distinction of creating a highly successful structured finance portfolio within two years of its existence with more than 40% of ICICI's incremental assets being structured assets.
  • In 2000, she spearheaded the e-Commerce initiatives for the ICICI Bank group and in less than six months built a solid foundation spanning the entire B2B, B2C and technology opportunities.
  • Having scripted a blueprint for innovative investment transactions, she has some eight big deals to her credit, including capacity-expansion investments in such firms as Welspun and Samtel, some real estate deals, buyouts and restructuring initiatives.
  • With $400 million under management, ICICI Venture is big on the investment map of the country. In May this year, its India Advantage Fund raised $240 million, some 50 per cent above the set target.
  • Pioneered the establishment of ICICI Eco-Net Limited.
  • She conceptualized ICICI Eco-net to capture and exploit the value creating opportunities which had emerged on account of Internet revolutionizing the style of equity investment, including eTrading. Soon thereafter, ICICI Eco-net was re-structured to merge with ICICI Venture, a company floated in 1988 as a joint venture between the ICICI Limited and the Unit Trust of India.
